ACL is a federally funded organisation advocating empowerment, independence and life in the community for people with disabilities.
  • We are a statewide organisation

  • Our work is directed by people with disabilities.

  • We work with people with all 'types' of disability

  • We support people to access the services and supports they
    need for a quality life in the community

  • We work on systemic issues that are of common concern.


ACL's focus

We are working on support service issues in all areas of life in the community including:

  • Education and training
  • Sport and recreation VICNORD
  • Transport
  • Lifestyle/accommodation support
  • Income support and employment


We provide advocacy support to the following groups:

  • People with disabilities regarding services presently available, eligibility criteria, appeals mechanisms, grievance procedures, training and service development.

  • Federal/State/Local Government and statutory bodies regarding policy development, policy changes, expectations and needs of people with disabilities, services gaps and overlaps, service monitoring and evaluation.

  • Disability service providers regarding development and implementation of user appropriate models which are flexible and focus on individual needs.

  • General service providers eg. TAFE, Shopping Centres, Community Health Centres etc. regarding the achievement of accessible services for people with disabilities.

  • The community regarding attitudes towards people with disabilities, an understanding of what services achieve and how the inclusion of people with disabilities can enhance our community for all of us.

We:

  • listen.

  • provide and coordinate information.

  • act with and on behalf of people with disabilities.

  • research disability issues.

  • increase awareness of individualised support models within the community.

  • take information about individual situations and build cases for groups or classes of people with disabilities.

  • work with people with disabilities to develop innovative ways to meet their needs with flexible support models.
